Minors

A minor is a small set of courses giving students basic competency in the subject.  A minor consists of at least 15 credit hours of courses, including at least six credits in the minor at the 3000-level or higher.  The courses selected to fulfill the minor must be approved by the faculty in the discipline that offers the minor program. Discipline faculty will determine which majors and minors cannot be completed concurrently.

Minors are not stand-alone programs. Minors may only be pursued while the student is enrolled in their major degree program and cannot be finished or awarded after the student’s major degree has been conferred.

  • The description of some minors in the university catalog will include a list of majors and minors that cannot be earned concurrently.  For example, a student may not both major and minor in psychology.
  • For a student to earn a minor, they must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 or higher in the minor courses.  Disciplines may define their minors with a higher minimum required GPA.
